The uncertainty surrounding W3C

It has been observed that people are generally reluctant when it comes to making their websites W3C compliant. This is generally due to the lack of solid information that they possess about the implications of this action. Worried by hearing the buzz words that surface the net regarding W3C compliance most people shun the idea all together without first understanding what it is all about.

The number concern for all web site owners is the popularity of their website. They want their web sites to do good and they fear that complying to W3C standards will have a negative effect on the performance of their website. Although their approach is correct their decisions are generally based on lack of information.

The real implications of W3C compliance

You will be amazed to hear that some website design agencies will actually tell you that not complying to W3C standards will have a negative effect on SEO, which inadvertently means the popularity of your web site. The truth of the matter is that there is no solid proof for this claim. There is a certain element of truth in the claim when it comes to validation but then again that is not the main focus of SEO anyways.

Then there is the problem of validation. W3C standards are restrictive and at times they require web site owners to sacrifice certain functions. Some web site owners may require certain functions and features that do not comply with W3C standards. In such instances web design agencies have no other choice but to create the web site according to their client’s preferences.

The different kinds of browsers also play an important part in this scenario. Since each browser displays the website code in a different manner certain work-a-rounds need to be implemented which can cause your website to fail.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that people are overly cautious about W3C compliance so much so that they lose the focus on the main purpose of the web site. Just because your website doesn’t fail with Google doesn’t guarantee commercial success.

Nonetheless it is always better to create your website in compliance with W3C standards. Not only will this help you avoid any problems in the future it will help to create some sort of conformity in the web world which is one of the main purposes of W3C. This will help to ensure the long term growth and success of the World Wide Web in general.
